Rockwood Retirement Communities is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Infection Preventionist/Staff Development Registered Nurse (RN) to join our South Hill healthcare team. This vital role combines expertise in infection control with staff education to promote a safe, compliant, and high-quality care environment. Pay Range: $49.00 – $53.00 per hour DOE

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday (Flexible hours!)
  • + 3k Retention bonus: Contingent on full time schedule (30 hours or more)
  • + $3.00 shift differential for Evening and/or Night Shift
  • +$5.00 per diem (option available for full-time RN) – May elect to receive per diem rate in lieu of receiving benefits

Infection Preventionist Duties:

  • Oversee the facility’s Infection Control Program in compliance with CDC, CMS, OSHA, and state regulations.
  • Participates in the national collaborative and external reporting to CDC NHSN system, and other post-acute-care specific quality organizations.
  • Track and trend infections, identify patterns, and implement control measures.
  • Chair the Infection Control Committee and lead outbreak investigations and reporting.
  • Serve as liaison to local and state health departments regarding infection trends and reportable diseases.
  • Observe staff compliance with infection control policies (e.g. hand hygiene, PPE, isolation protocols).
  • Educate staff on emerging infection trends, updated guidelines, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, surveillance logs, and infection control audits.
  • Maintains current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and ensures that the campus leaders are informed of appropriate issues. Understands, complies with and directs efforts that ensure compliance with infection control, safety and OSHA/CMS procedures and regulations.
  • Support employee health activities, including vaccinations and TB testing.

Staff Development Coordinator Duties

  • Develop and coordinate onboarding and orientation programs for new and returning staff.
  • Conduct competency evaluations for clinical team members and track completion of annual assessments.
  • Deliver engaging in-service education sessions based on identified needs and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain monthly and annual training calendars for licensed and non-licensed personnel.
  • Provide hands-on training, classroom instruction, and on-the-job coaching as needed.
  • Assist with certification programs and continuing education requirements.
  • Collaborate with department heads to address staff performance through targeted education.
  • Aid in coordinating CPR training and maintain related certifications and documentation

Requirements:

  • Current Washington State RN license
  • Bachelor of Science (BSN)
  • Has special training in Infection Prevention & Control from an accredited Continuing Education (or willing to obtain within the first 6 months)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • 3+ years’ experience in Long Term Care
  • Strong Critical Thinking Skills
