Rockwood South Hill is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Activity Assistant to support residents in our Independent Living (IL) community at the South Hill Campus. The ideal candidate will possess a strong enthusiasm for engaging seniors through meaningful activities, fostering social connections, and enhancing overall well-being. As an Activity Assistant, you will coordinate and implement a variety of recreational programs designed to promote mental, emotional, and physical health. Your role is vital in creating a vibrant, inclusive environment where residents feel valued, supported, and inspired to participate actively in their community.
Pay Range: $20.00 – $21.00 per hour
Shift Type: Full-time: Tuesday-Saturday (8:30am-5:30pm)
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and facilitate engaging recreational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities, including event planning and social outings.
- Coordinate volunteer program.
- Assists in program research.
- Drives passengers on outings maintaining safety practices for passengers, vehicle, and public by bending, twisting, and securing seat belts for the passengers.
- Assists with typing the repeating portions of the monthly newsletter, The View.
- Assists Life Enrichment Director with The View programs and confirming set up is posted.
- Effectively communicates with the Director of Activities and departments for programs.
- Assists Life Enrichment Director by keeping a monthly work schedule and properly uses a time clock.
- Assists with A/V and Electronic support for programs.
- Assist with on-and off-campus events and set-up to tear down.
- Assists Transportation Lead with van outing confirmations
- Assisting in the Activities Office using excellent customer service skills and knowledge of daily activities.
- Plan and facilitate Low Income Housing Programing
- Assists in creating Plaza Game Room programs and room tidiness.
- Maintains tracking of Hooked on Books (book/Kindle loan outs).
- Assists with seasonal decoration by performing lifting and carrying of decorations.
- Assists with Bright Arrow and Rockwood Connect/Touchtown.
- Assists with Art Studio activities.
- Assists with organizing storage rooms by lifting, carrying boxes of supplies and decorations.
- Adheres to all professional standards, policy and procedures; federal, state and local requirements.
- Maintains confidentiality of all resident information.
- Upholds the RRC Values in all interactions.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors and staff and maintain a good working relationship with all staff.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience working with senior adults in a retirement community setting.
- Proficient in arts and crafts and possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrate strong computer and clerical skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to perform program research, assist in planning programs and be comfortable with public speaking.
- Valid Driver’s License and a three-year Driver’s Abstract/Record.
- Must possess proof of current auto insurance.
- Experience driving a 10+ passenger van with a wheelchair lift preferred.
- Current CPR-First Aid card preferred.
