Rockwood at Whitworth is looking for an experienced Full-Time Sous Chef to join our Food Service department. This position is responsible for providing a pleasurable dining experience for our residents, their families, and our team members by preparing high-quality food.
Pay Range: $20 – $23 per hour
Shift Type: Tues – Sat |11:00am – 7:30pm
Responsibilities
- Assist in menu planning, taking advantage of foods in season and local availability
- Oversee the preparation of various health center foods depending on menu created by dietitians, for each meal of the day
- Oversee evening line chefs and coach/mentor chefs on quality and timing expectations
- Oversee evening dishwashing staff and assist them with time management and duties as assigned when needed
- Conduct audits of storage areas to assure FIFO, proper labeling and dating, and hot and cold holding standards are being met
- Assist with audits of temperature logs for all areas (including health center) are current and documented correctly
- Operate kitchen equipment in preparation for meals
- Assist with and assure clean work surfaces following shift: sweep floors, wipe down counter space, cover and store unused foods
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current Washington State food handler’s permit & Serv Safe certified
- 3-5 years food service or restaurant experience, leadership experience is preferred
- Able to work at a constant pace to ensure the food is ready for each meal of the day
- Knife skills
- Catering experience is preferred
- Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds
- Comfortable standing, stooping, squatting, twisting, and moving frequently
- Ability to pass a food service sanitation course
- Strong working knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and safety
- Proven ability to work with multi-generational groups and individuals
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
