2024 Board of Trustees

Tom Johnson, chair
Trustee since 2021, Tom is a retired former President/CEO of Spokane Teachers Credit Union and former Vice President for Business Affairs at Whitworth University. He has served on many community boards and we welcome his passion for community and his strong skills in business and leadership. Tom is Chair of the Executive Committee and serves on the Governance and Master Planning Committees.
Catherine Kardong, Vice Chair
Trustee since 2023, Catherine is an attorney at Hunter Elder Law working as an estate planning, probate and elder law attorney. She is a Gonzaga University School of Law graduate and previously clerked for a Washington State Supreme Court Justice, and then worked at the Attorney General’s Office and Winston & Cashatt, Lawyers. Catherine is a board member of the Lilac Bloomsday Association. Catherine serves on Rockwood’s Executive Committee, Governance and Strategic Planning Committees.
John Barber
Trustee since 2013, John is a retired engineer whose career has included working at NASA and for several transportation administrations. He offers skills in design, cost-benefit analysis and operational planning. John serves as Chair of the Governance Committee and serves on the Executive, Strategic Planning and Master Planning Committees.
Jonell Block
Trustee since 2017, Jonell is a Doctor of Audiology and owns her own business, Audiology Northwest. She is a cellist in the Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra. Jonell serves on the Governance and Strategic Planning Committees, and chairs the Appleway Court Board.
Paul Branin
Trustee since 2025, Paul has over 25 years of operational leadership experience in the senior care sector. He is Vice President of Business Development at Health Dimensions Group. Paul serves on the Finance Committee.
Patty Conaty
Trustee since 2022, Patty is a resident at Rockwood South Hill. Patty holds a Business Administration degree and worked as a CPA. She is past chair of the Rockwood Residents’ Foundation Board and previously served on its Investment Advisory Committee, and as treasurer for a couple of local organizations. Patty serves on the Finance Committee.
Carlos de Imus
Trustee since 2024, Carlos is a financial advisor for Ameriprise Financial and a member of the Washington State Bar Association. He was previously a corporate attorney and worked as counsel for Microsoft and T-Mobile. He has served on several boards, including as president of Snoqualmie Valley St. Vincent de Paul, and has volunteered for schools and Microsoft’s Just The Beginning Foundation. Carlos serves on the Governance and Master Planning Committees.
Andy DeMott, Past Chair
Trustee since 2018, Andy worked as a military legislative assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy and in the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Keyport, WA. He is a former board chair of the Spokane Club. Andy is Past Chair of the Board and serves on the Executive Committee, Governance Committee, and Strategic Planning Committee.
dENNY DENHOLM
Trustee since 2024, Denny brings a wealth of experience in manufacturing, construction and business operations. He has previously served on a variety of boards, including 3M Corporation, Salvation Army, and the Mead School District. Denny was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1996 and has lived in Spokane ever since. Denny is Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and serves on the Master Planning Committee.
Jim Droppers
Trustee since 2021, Jim has been an executive leader in the senior care and services industry for 30 years. He served the Good Samaritan Society for much of his career and will be of great service to our organization with his compassion for seniors and his background and leadership skills for guiding positive change in our industry. Jim is Chair of the Finance Committee and serves on the Executive and Strategic Planning Committees.
Diane Gibson
Trustee since 2025, Diane has owned DMG Consultancy working as an organizational architect and consultant in the Inland Northwest and Oregon. Passionate about training and mentoring others, Diane is a board member of Women in Manufacturing /Washington Chapter, and has served on boards related to organizational management. As her father was a nursing home administrator, she learned early on the importance of caring for seniors. Diane serves on the Governance Committee.
Demitri Itskos
Trustee since 2023, Demitri is the VP of Credit Administration for First Interstate Bank. His career in the banking industry provides our board with great fiscal skills and oversight abilities. Demitri serves on the Finance and Executive Committees.
Alan Lesher
Trustee since 2025, Alan was the President & CEO of the YMCA of the Inland Northwest and formerly its Finance Director. He has served on many community boards, including 501c Agencies Trust and Joya (formerly Spokane Guilds’ School) on which he is still active. He serves on the Finance Committee.
Rev. Sheila Miranda
Trustee since 2021, Rev. Sheila Miranda is an Associate for Connectional Ministries for the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. She serves the Conference by connecting churches with conference resources and develops collaboration in mission projects. We welcome her ecumenical guidance and connections. She serves on the Governance Committee and Appleway Court Board.
Rick Thomas
Trustee since 2023, Rick is a resident at Rockwood at Whitworth and a member of both the Spokane Club and Kalispel Golf and Country Club. He is the former president of Edge Construction Supply. He serves on the Finance Committee.
David Wetmore
Trustee since 2022, David Wetmore is a retired director of rehabilitation services and physical therapist who has worked in various medical and senior care facilities. He brings a unique medical perspective to our Board. David chairs the Master Planning Committee and serves on the
Governance Committee.
